Su Blackwell
Having previously looked at Su Blackwell’s work, it inspired me to drive myself to become more confident in the field of 3D work. Within my work I decided to suspend a garment (baby grow) using fishing wire, as it then gave the piece a more human presence.
Her work is simply beautiful!! I cant imagine how anyone could look at her work and not enjoy it. She manages to transform plain objects such as books and paper into a creation that I would describe as magic. She doesn’t use colour, which is an element I think is important in work, but keeps it simple. This makes her work delicate with a hint of an old, vintage kind of theme. My favourite piece of hers is her installation piece “While you were sleeping”. This piece is so soft in appearence, that it captures your eyes. You physically cannot remove your attention from it because it is so mesmerizing. I think it has movement, you can imagine the physical movement of the little paper butterflies removing themselves from the garment and flying away. The ray of light gives you a line of focus to follow through the artwork. I would love to develop my 3D skills to gain a result like this in the future.
